Enhancing evidence-based decision making by health sector stakeholders in Kenya

HealthIT is a USAID/Kenya funded activity led by the University of Nairobi through UNES (University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services). It works collaboratively with the Government of Kenya (GoK)-Ministry of Health to contribute to evidence-based decision making by health stakeholders in Kenya.This ground breaking collaboration is aimed at strengthening national Information systems that support reporting, provide data for decision making and improving human capacity on use of health systems, quality data capture and reporting.


Our goal

To contribute towards enhancing evidence-based decision making by all health sector stakeholders through leveraging and strengthening integrated Health Information Systems (HIS).


Project objective

Establish a local Kenya-based resource for the management, development, maintenance and evolution of HIS through:

Referencing HIS policies, strategies, standards and reporting to support both national and county levels in health service provision.

Development and enhancements of performance and accountability systems

Strengthening institutional capacity in in terms on human and Health informatics research

Overall purpose

Strengthen National Policies, Strategies, Standards and Reporting related to Kenya’s Health Information System (HIS) to support County and National Level Health Service Provision

Sub-purpose 1

Strengthened National Information Systems that support reporting, provide data for decision making for GOK, counties and other stakeholders

Sub-purpose 2

Improved institutional capacity of national and county MOH on use of health systems, quality data capture and reporting
