USAID HealthIT’s implementation strategy is to work with; Ministry of Health (MOH), County Governments,
County Proximate Universities (CPUs), Service Delivery Implementing Partners (SDIP) and Digital Health
and Strategic Information Partners to deploy, expand, enhance and implement electronic health records
with Kenya EMR as the core clinical service module to provide a facility- wide electronic system.
The extended KenyaEMR is a facility-wide Electronic Health Record (EHR) system aimed at improving the existing KenyaEMR (which only covers CCC) to be able to cover other patient service points in a facility.
In 2021, USAID-HealthIT also supported MOH in the scale up of the extended Kenya Electronic Medical Records systems with 113 health facilities across 40 counties in the country receiving ICT equipment for this purpose. Additionally in 2022, HealthIT worked with NASCOP, County Proximate Universities (CPUs), and County Ministry of Health (MOH) teams in the digital health scale-up in 40 facilities with one facility in each of the 40 counties to support the delivery of HIV care and treatment services as well as key services. This will enhance use of digital health solutions at the facilities and availability of quality patient level data for better HIV programming and reporting leading to improved patient experience and outcomes. HealthIT continues to offer technical support in maintenance and use of the equipment.
