Digital Health Systems Scale Up


Through USAID funding:

165 facilities across 40 counties received ICT equipment for the scale-up of extended KenyaEMR. Digitizing health systems will enhance data quality for reporting, patient experience, and health outcomes.

Worked with NASCOP, County Proximate Universities (CPUs), and County Ministry of Health (MOH) teams in the digital health scale-up in 40 facilities with 1 facility in each of the 40 counties Targeted facilities were level 2 and level 3 to support the delivery of HIV care and treatment services as well as key services.

Data Alignment Activities


Supporting NASCOP and County MOH to carry out data alignment activities. All PEPFAR 40 priority counties 40 have been engaged in the Data Alignment Processes. The main focus of the data alignment activity is to strengthen the government system for reporting (KHIS) in such a way that it becomes a single for information both for government, partners, and donors.


Digital Health Systems Supported

Some of the Systems Supported Include:

  • Supported NASCOP in the rollout of the upgraded Early Infant Diagnosis and Viral Load system in the 8 regional reference laboratories and training of the lab managers. Continued to support most of the regional labs with system hosting, maintenance, and management at UoN Data Centre and NASCOP Afya Annex Data Centre.
  • Providing technical assistance to MOH in the enhancement, management, support, user training, and use of 15+digital health information systems. These systems avail critical data used for reporting and decision-making.

Some of the Systems Supported Include:

  • Supporting MOH in the creation, hosting and enhancement of a Virtual Academy (VA). MOH VA has over 10000+ users, 17+ certifiable courses, and is an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider by 6 regulatory bodies.


County Support

County Support

  • Supporting the implementation of county proximate universities (CPU) work plans aligned to counties’ annual work plans (AWPs.) The 7 CPUs support activities across 32 counties in areas such as HIS training, Electronic Health Records (EHR) software deployment, ICT infrastructure deployment, CPIMS data quality assessments and follow up, MOH Virtual Academy use, iHRIS technical working groups, service desk support, and hackathons to develop digital solutions addressing HIS challenges.

  • We work with MOH and the Department of Children Services to avail a robust test environment for systems’ development and testing for use by key stakeholders

Supporting DCS

  • Provided technical assistance to the Department of Children Services throughout the whole country, from the initial 12 pilot counties to a national footprint where CPIMS is available and used in the whole country; 47 county children offices, 290 sub county children offices, 30 statutory institutions and in Charitable Children Institutions in 7 counties.
  • HealthIT supports the development of the Department of Children Services' leadership & governance capability to own, manage and ensure the evolution of Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC)Implementing Partners to support uptake, utilization and capacity building of the Child Protection Information Management System (CPIMS) for Child Protection and Vulnerable Children.
  • HealthIT Supported joint CPIMS enhancement improving the OVC dashboard and the system reports to conform to MER 2.2 v 6 guidance on indicator reporting.
